A teen-led philanthropy group and a shoe company are collaborating in hopes of donating a world record 21,000 shoes in San Diego.
The Youth Philanthropy Council and Jellypop Shoes will distribute shoes, backpacks and toys from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Saint Nicks Kicks event, at Sharp Healthcare Spectrum Center, 8695 Spectrum Center Blvd.
Youth Philanthropy officials said hundreds of volunteers are set to take part in the event, but they are looking for additional volunteers and donations in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the number of shoes donated in one 24-hour period.
Those who are interested may sign up as volunteers or contribute online.
“By purposely making this a live event we hope to not only provide new shoes for women and toys for children, but to also create a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our youth volunteers, raising awareness and inspiring future generations of givers,” council chairman Augustus Holm said in a statement.
