Berlin (d.de) – Children and young people in Germany are growing up more diverse than ever before, particularly in terms of origin, religion and gender identity. This is shown by the 17th Children and Youth Report, which Federal Youth Minister Lisa Paus presented together with experts. The report also shows that the situation of young people in Germany is currently characterised by overlapping challenges such as wars, climate change, global refugee migration, the aftermath of the pandemic, but also by a shortage of skilled workers and the pressure on democracy. Most young people in Germany are confident about the coming years. However, their confidence in the future has decreased overall. Many young people also want to be more involved in politics and society.
“Young people must be able to rely on the fact that their rights and voices carry weight in political and social decisions. That is why I am working on a National Action Plan that shows what binding and effective child and youth participation can look like in our country,” said Youth Minister Paus.
