There’s no need to weather the Red Storm alone.
The St. John’s University men’s basketball team is fresh off its first NCAA tournament game win in a quarter-century, and up against Arkansas for the second round on Saturday at 2:40 p.m. in Providence, Rhode Island. On Thursday, St. John’s won against the Omaha Mavericks.
While we hear the nation’s smallest state is lovely, you don’t have to make the three-hour trip to Providence to find some company for the game. Plenty of bars in and around New York City will have it on.
Among them is Stout, with four locations in Manhattan, including its go-to place to watch St. John’s games — across from Madison Square Garden on 33rd Street. It’s the official bar of St. John’s athletics and an alumni-owned business.
“I think they’re going to go pretty far,” said Shane Chrystal, general manager of Stout on 33rd Street. “The fans are happy, they’re excited, they’re optimistic and we’re happy to have them here and share the excitement of watching it together with them and enjoy it.”
The winner of the second round will advance to the Sweet 16 next week in San Francisco to face the winner of the Texas Tech v. Drake game.
This year also marks the first time in 25 years that the Red Storm men’s basketball team won the Big East Tournament. The Queens school hasn’t made it to the Final Four since 1985.
If you’re staying home, you can watch the game live on CBS or stream it. But here are some other locations in and around NYC that will be showing Red Storm NCAA tournament games, according to the school’s athletics department.
