It is being called by some, the biggest upset in NCAA wrestling history…
Number two seeded Wyatt Hendrickson stunned the college wrestling world on Saturday night, as he defeated top seeded Olympic Gold Medalist Gable Steveson 5-4, to win the NCAA National Championship for the heavyweight division.
Being an Olympic Gold Medalist, Steveson earned his right to automatically represent the United States at the 2021 World Championships. On August 15, 2021, Steveson had notified USA Wrestling that he was rejecting the bid, as he would go on to pursue other ventures. Just a month later, it was announced Steveson signed an NIL deal with WWE.
Steveson was released from WWE on May 3, 2024. On May 31 of that same year, he signed a three-deal with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, but was released during training camp.
