L’uragano Milton, “la tempesta del secolo”, ha toccato terra vicino Siesta Key, sulla costa occidentale della Florida, con venti fino a 205 chilometri all’ora. L’uragano è stato classificato con categoria 3, su un massimo di 5, ed è poi sceso a categoria 2. Nel Sunshine State è stata ordinata l’evacuazione, le persone affollano i rifugi. Da ore suonano le sirene per l’evacuazione.
Secondo gli esperti, si temono mareggiate fino a 4,7 metri. La tempesta è ‘sbarcata’ a 70 km a sud di Tampa Bay, un importante centro abitato con oltre 3,3 milioni di persone, che non ha subito l’impatto diretto di un grande uragano per più di 100 anni. Secondo gli esperti, Milton scaricherà 46 centimetri di pioggia sulla Florida centrale.

Reuters riporta che l’uragano Milton si trova a circa 165 km a ovest-sudovest di Cape Canaveral, Florida, con venti massimi sostenuti di 165 km/h. Secondo il National Hurricane Center, una volta entrato nell’Atlantico, Milton dovrebbe perdere gradualmente le sue caratteristiche tropicali e indebolirsi lentamente.

La Fema, la protezione civile statunitense, ha fatto sapere che l’uragano Milton ha anche generato “tornado multipli”, che – riportano i media Usa – avrebbero fatto delle vittime. Il numero di tornado è almeno pari a 19.

Circa un’ora dopo aver toccato terra, l’uragano Milton ha perso un po’ di potenza ed è sceso a categoria 2 (da 3 che era, su una scala di 5). Ma la potenza è ancora distruttiva. Secondo le stime Milton, che sta attraversando la Florida, tornerà in mare a metà giornata (la serata italiana). Saranno 20 ore difficili per gli abitanti della Florida: sono attesi fino a 46 centimetri di precipitazioni.

Si stima che circa 125 abitazioni siano state distrutte in Florida e “molte aree stanno già sperimentando mareggiate pericolose per la vita o tornado altrettanto pericolosi”, ha dichiarato Kevin Guthrie, direttore esecutivo della Divisione di Gestione delle Emergenze dello stato della Florida. Lo ha dichiarato il governatore della Florida, Ron DeSantis, per il quale ormai è troppo tardi e troppo pericoloso procedere con ulteriori evacuazioni, per cui il consiglio è di “rimanere in casa” e “non mettersi per strada”. A pochi minuti dall’arrivo di Milton, sono già quasi 780.000 i clienti in Florida senza corrente, secondo PowerOutage, un sito web di contabilità online.

Alle 20 ora locale (le 2 del mattino in Italia) l’uragano di categoria 3 Milton si trovava a circa 30 chilometri a ovest-sudovest di Sarasota, in Florida, e aveva venti massimi sostenuti di 195 km/h , come riportato dal National Hurricane Center degli Stati Uniti. L’uragano era “vicino a toccare terra” e si stava spostando verso nord-est a una velocità di 28 km/h, rallentando leggermente rispetto al pomeriggio.

Il problema maggiore dell’uragano Milton sono considerate le mareggiate che potrebbero raggiungere i 4,7 metri, il doppio di quelle causate da Helene due settimana fa. L’uragano toccherà terra probabilmente come categoria 3 o 4 e attraverserà la penisola della Florida che lascerà come categoria 1. L’impatto potenziale sarà devastante su un’area molto grande, dal golfo del Messico all’oceano Atlantico, con piogge torrenziali, inondazioni, tornado e venti ben oltre i 200 km/h. Se Milton colpirà direttamente Tampa come categoria 3 o più alta, le perdite sarebbero nell’ordine di decine di miliardi, forse fino a 75 miliardi. Una cifra che potrebbe comunque facilmente salire. Biden attacca Trump: “Da lui menzogne sugli uragani”
Joe Biden attacca Donald Trump e tutti coloro, inclusa la deputata repubblicana Marjorie Taylor Green, e li accusa di diffondere “menzogne” sugli uragani.
