SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A group of musicians featured in a new documentary about the war in Ukraine performed in Saratoga Springs Friday night at SPAC’s Spa Little Theater.
DakhaBrakha mixes traditional Ukrainian folk music with a contemporary twist and world music influences. As Russia’s war in Ukraine continues, band member Marko Halanevych said they communicate through the universal languages of music and art.
“We communicate through the language of music, the language of art. These are universal languages. We would like people around the world to know that a people called Ukrainians exist. And they have the right to exist, to sing songs, to speak, and to write in their own language. We are a nation that respects freedom and democratic values of modern civilization, which until recently were unquestionable. We have a long history of our own, with both heroic and tragic pages. And we will stand until victory, and we will not return to the fold of the authoritarian Russian Empire. Moreover, we want our concerts to give people hope and faith in good and justice, in the power of love.”
DakhaBrakha is one of the groups in the documentary “Soldiers of Song” which is the latest project supported by the Governor George Pataki Leadership Center.
