BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Two South Central Kentucky men are sentenced for murder.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky says Freddy Manuel Gonzalez, 40 of Bowling Green, and Xavier Caine Posey, 26 of Logan County, arranged a murder-for-hire plot for the victim, Brian Russell, on December 29 and 30, 2020.
Gonzalez and Posey were in communication by cell phone. Gonzalez provided a firearm to Posey. Posey shot Russell three times in his home in Franklin on December 30, 2020. Gonzalez later paid Posey for committing the murder.
Gonzalez will serve 40 years in federal prison, with 5 years of supervised release. Posey will serve 35 years in federal prison, with 5 years of supervised release.
The office says Andy Martin Schmucker, 37 of Beaver Dam, has pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to the crime of murder for hire, in a related case. Schmucker will be sentenced on December 2, 2024.
