North Laurel, George Rogers Clark and Frederick Douglass all advance
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- North Laurel, George Rogers Clark and Frederick Douglass all will play in the quarterfinals of the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen after winning in round one.
North Laurel bested Ashland Blazer 51-42 as Brooke Nichelson led the Lady Jaguars with 28 points in her 28 minutes of action. Her teammate, Mariella Claybrook, had a team-high 11 rebounds.
GRC handled a third quarter surge from Franklin-Simpson and came out 64-42 winners. The Lady Cards were held to seven points in the third, but exploded for 28 in the fourth to seal victory.
Head Coach Robbie Graham’s side will face off against the Lady Jags in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 14 in the first game at 11 a.m.
Frederick Douglass climbed out of a 21-9 hole in the first half to win 48-39. Tamia Wade’s team-high 18 points helped secure the comeback.
The Lady Broncos will face Taylor County in the next round on Friday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m.
