A retired Air Force lieutenant general, Jay B. Silveria, will be the next president of the University of Arkansas System.
The system’s board of trustees voted Monday to hire Silveria, now a top administrator at Texas A&M University, to succeed Donald Bobbitt, who notified the board earlier this year of his intent to retire.
Silveria, who attended Monday’s meeting, is the associate vice president and executive director of Texas A&M and the Bush School of Government & Public Service in Washington, D.C.
Rumors had circulated for months that former Gov. Asa Hutchinson wanted the job, though Hutchinson never publicly confirmed the reports. Hutchinson’s prospects likely dimmed after he refused to support fellow Republican Donald Trump for president.
