NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The American Red Cross says volunteers are ready to help when Hurricane Milton hits. There are currently 183 shelters across southeast America for both Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene victims.
“Any resident that will make their way over here, we have shelters, we have Red Cross offices all along the Gulf Coast, they can certainly come this way. If they come this way and they want to get help from us, just reach out to us and we can provide assistance,” Kenneth St. Charles with the American Red Cross said.
St. Charles says shelters will remain open for as long as people need assistance.
“The reality is the Red Cross will be there till the last person leaves the shelter. We don’t know if it will be a month, six months, a year, we will be there for as long as people need us to be there,” St. Charles said.
They also have resources to reunite families.
“So, when someone can’t locate someone because they have no cell service, we try to help them, and find people in those needed areas,” said St. Charles.
The organization is still in need of volunteers.
