A 17-year-old boy riding an e-bike was seriously injured in a collision involving another vehicle in the Bay Park area, authorities said Sunday.
The accident occurred around 5:10 p.m. Saturday in the 2600 block of Fairfield Street, near the intersection of Huxley Street, just a few blocks from Western Hills Park, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Police said a 41-year-old man behind the wheel of a 2001 Mercedes traveling southbound on Fairfield Street made a left turn and the two collided.
“The driver of the e-bike was ejected and suffered multiple facial fractures. Driving under the influence was not a factor in the collision,” a public information officer with the department told City News Service.
The teen was not wearing a helmet, and was taken to a hospital. His condition was unclear, officials said.
The collision was under investigation to determine who was at fault, according to the department.
