SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Two men from Springdale were sentenced Nov. 8 in Washington County Circuit Court to 40 years in prison, with 20 years suspended, after pleading guilty to charges related to a 2022 shooting.
Jamie Castro-Trujillo, 20, and Michael Adief Figueroa, 20 faced initial charges of attempted capital murder but accepted a plea deal, resulting in convictions for first-degree battery and committing a terroristic act, according to court documents.
The incident occurred on Aug. 13, 2022, around 1:30 a.m. when Springdale police responded to a 911 call about gunfire near George Park. Officers arriving at the scene found 12 spent .223 shell casings in a field off Hylton Road, just south of the park, according to court documents.
They also learned that a nearby residence on Butterfly Avenue had been struck by bullets, though no injuries were reported inside.
Around 5:30 a.m., police received a call from a local hospital about a 15-year-old boy being treated for a gunshot wound to his knee.
Detectives interviewed the boy, who told them he had arranged to meet Castro-Trujillo at the park for a fight.
As he drove up, he saw a red Nissan nearby, then heard gunshots hitting his pickup truck. While attempting to escape, he was struck in the knee by a bullet.
Springdale police located Castro-Trujillo at his apartment later that day. The SWAT team was called in, and he was arrested without incident and held on a $250,000 bond.
According to court documents, Figueroa was also taken into custody after admitting to detectives that he fired a Glock pistol at the truck.
