Windier weather will be kicking up this afternoon and into tomorrow. These winds could lead to blowing dust storm and critical fire risks.
An upper level trough is preparing to dip into New Mexico. This trough will bringing isolated rain showers late tonight and into tomorrow. Most of these rain showers will occur in northern New Mexico. The mountains could also see isolated snow showers overnight.
On Tuesday the trough will have fully moved over New Mexico. The primary concern for weather caused by the trough is the winds. Gusts upwards of 65 mph are possible tomorrow afternoon. These winds will be the most prominent in southern and eastern New Mexico.
The strong gusts through the afternoon could cause blowing dust storms across parts of central, southern, and eastern New Mexico. The risk for these storms will be the most prominent in the afternoon and early evening, when the winds are at their strongest.
The strong winds could have an impact on fire weather tomorrow. Much of southern and eastern New Mexico are under Red Flag Warning for tomorrow, April 1st. If a wildfire were to spark, the winds would easily spread the fire.
Another storm system is set to move into the state late this week. This storm will be bring more widespread chances for rain and snow Friday through the weekend. However, there is still a bit of uncertainty surrounding the forecast.
