Springfield, Mo. – The Springfield Police Department will graduate 16 police recruits and one fire marshal from the 79th Police Academy on Tuesday, March 25, at 7 p.m., at Parkcrest Baptist Church (816 W. Republic Rd.).
The Springfield Police Academy includes 1,073 hours of intense law enforcement training, over 27 weeks, which this class of recruits began in September. After graduation, the new police officers are assigned to an experienced field-training officer (FTO) for the next 16 weeks for an additional 640 hours of on-the-job training. Once they complete the FTO program, the officers are assigned to solo patrol duties in the Uniform Operations Bureau.
Following graduation, the fire marshal will be assigned to the Bureau of Fire Prevention with the Springfield Fire Department, where he will provide expertise in fire origin and cause investigations as well as enforce the Fire Code.
The graduates of the 79th academy include 10 men and six women with a variety of educational backgrounds and work experience, including military, security, corrections, medical, social services, and private business, along with 1 experienced fire fighter.
The ceremony will be livestreamed on CityView and on the Springfield Police Department’s Facebook beginning at 7 p.m.
