The State Law Enforcement Division has charged a juvenile detention deputy with assault for an alleged altercation with a 17-year-old inmate.
According to a warrant affidavit released by SLED, 34-year-old Laquinta Sheneil Jefferson was booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center on Nov. 15 on a third-degree assault and battery charge from an incident that allegedly occurred while she was employed at the Charleston County Juvenile Detention Center.
The affidavit alleges that on June 8, Jefferson held the victim’s neck with her right hand as she tried to get the juvenile to follow her orders. The victim was an inmate of the juvenile detention center when the incident occurred.
Jefferson was released from custody on a personal recognizance bond the day of her arrest.
