HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The city of Huntsville’s 2025 budget proposes an increase to accommodate more sidewalk construction.
The city’s budget for the 2025 fiscal year supports funding for more sidewalk construction. This is a direct response to a popular neighborhood enhancement that residents reportedly frequently request.
“Providing more money for sidewalk construction is something we’re excited to include in this budget,” Mayor Tommy Battle said. “Sidewalks bond our neighborhoods and communities, and to build 15 new sidewalks further promotes Huntsville as a desirable place to live and raise a family.”
The plans show 15 projects totaling 3.2 miles of new sidewalks throughout the city of Huntsville. The budget increase for this is 12.5%.
The city said staff are still in the process of finishing the list of sidewalks that would be included in the 2025 budget.
Evaluations for each consist of reviewing existing site conditions, utility conflicts, right-of-way constraints and cost estimates. The list of sidewalks is expected to be completed later this year.
