(KRON) — A United Airlines flight was diverted to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) last Saturday because the pilot did not have his passport onboard, the airline said in an email to KRON4. United Flight 198 departed from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. and was bound for Shanghai, China.
The plane took a detour and landed at SFO around 5:06 p.m., according to United Airlines’ flight tracker. United arranged for a new crew, including the pilot, to bring the 257 passengers to China. There were 13 crew members onboard.
United Flight 198 landed in Shanghai on Monday at 12:48 a.m. local time. To make up for the inconvenience, United said customers were given meal vouchers and compensation.
