Severe Drought continues for almost all of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. This continues to be the worst drought locally since the summer of 2012.
One notable change though this week is that the Extreme Drought has been removed from northwest Ohio. This means the rain we have picked up over the past week has led to some improvements. Below you can find how the drought monitor looked last week.
Through November 14th, Fort Wayne has picked up 1.26 inches of rainfall this month. This is below average by 0.09 inches. Note that the drought monitor data is collected on Tuesday, so not all of the month’s rain has been calculated into our latest map. Our total of near a half an inch of rain on Wednesday and Thursday this week is not a part of this week’s drought update.
This drier than average start to November so far comes after the third driest October on record in Fort Wayne’s history, when only 0.43 inches of rain fell the entire month. Our total in November so far though is much higher compared to October.
Through November 14th, we’re currently on pace for our third driest ever fall in Fort Wayne. Our total of 3.11 inches of precipitation is over four inches below average for the meteorological season so far (September through November).
Despite the very rainy spring, we’re over four inches below average in terms of our 2024 precipitation total through November 14th. We currently stand at just over 30 inches of precipitation on the year.
Rain chances are in store though again next week! We could use a whole lot more and even some snowflakes may be in the mix… Visit our WANE 15 Forecast Page for the details.
