SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — March Madness here we come. San Diego has four teams heading to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in history — Aztecs and Tritons men’s and women’s.
UC San Diego men’s basketball
UC San Diego (UCSD) is headed to Denver, Colorado for the first round of the 2025 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. The No. 12 Tritons will face No. 5 Michigan in the First Round of the South Region on March 20.
UC San Diego is making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament in its inaugural year of being postseason eligible after a four-year reclassification period from NCAA Division II.
UC San Diego women’s basketball
UC San Diego women’s will represent the Big West in March Madness on March 20, playing in its first Division I season with postseason eligibility. UCSD defeated UC Davis to claim the Big West Championship Saturday afternoon.
The No. 16 Tritons will play in the First Four against No. 13 Southern University. The winner of that matchup will take on top seeded UCLA in Los Angeles.
San Diego State (SDSU) men’s basketball
No. 11 San Diego State (SDSU) Aztecs men’s basketball will face off against No. 11 University of North Carolina (UNC) on March 18 in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio.
This is SDSU’s fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, the sixth in eight seasons under head coach Brian Dutcher.
San Diego State (SDSU) women’s basketball
No. 14 San Diego State (SDSU) Aztecs women’s basketball will face off against No. 3 Louisiana State University (LSU) in the first round of March Madness in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on March 22.
The winner will face the winner of sixth-seeded Florida State and 11th-seeded George Mason.
This is San Diego State’s 10th NCAA appearance overall and first since 2012.

- Second round: March 22-23
- Sweet 16: March 27-28
- Elite Eight: March 29-30
- Final Four: April 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas
- NCAA championship game: April 7 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas
2025 NCAA women’s tournament schedule:
- First Four: March 19-20
- First round: March 21-22
- Second round: March 23-24
- Sweet 16: March 28-29
- Elite Eight: March 30-31
- Final Four: Friday, April 4 at 7 p.m. with the second semifinal starting 30 minutes after the first game ends. Both will be at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida
- NCAA championship game: Sunday, April 6 at 3 p.m. ET on ABC, hosted at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida
