“M. Speaker, it is my great honor to recognize Oceanside Police Chief Taurino Valdovinos as my Constituent of the Month for November 2024.
Chief Valdovinos, who had served as Assistant Police Chief since 2023, has been with the Oceanside Police Department since 2003 serving multiple divisions and specialized teams throughout his career. Through his decades of experience, he was decorated with several leadership positions and awards, including the Dan Bessant Community Policing Award.
Chief Valdovinos is committed to community engagement, having created the Oceanside Youth Partnership mentoring program for at-risk youth. He also teaches part-time at the University of San Diego’s Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership master’s degree program.
Chief Valdovinos prioritizes direct community engagement and is planning a series of community listening sessions to provide residents an opportunity to share their vision, experiences and perspectives on policing in Oceanside.
His longstanding commitment to community building is evident in his efforts to foster positive relationships between the Oceanside Police Department and Oceanside’s diverse population, including the Latino community.
