DENVER (KDVR) — Arrowhead Elementary School was briefly “on hold” Friday morning after police said they found a student with a firearm.
The Aurora Police Department confirmed with FOX31 that officers received a report of a weapon in the school. A student was located, and after a pat down, the student was found with “what appears to be” a weapon, according to a department spokesperson.
The department later confirmed the student in question was “contacted,” and officers located and secured a firearm.
The Aurora school north of the Seven Hills neighborhood was on hold, a precautionary safety measure that keeps the halls clear. During holds, students and staff are instructed to stay in the classroom until the situation is resolved, but behind classroom doors, it’s business as usual, according to the Cherry Creek School District.
The lockdown has since been lifted, and police said the school returned to normal operations.
