What a week of gambling news! There were huge online poker thefts from players bank accounts from a vulnerability with a payment processor! Plus, someone just walked into Resorts World Las Vegas and robbed the high roller cash cage!
Hello friends, and welcome to This Week in Gambling. We’re back after taking a week off to gorge ourselves on turkey, stuffing, and gravy… all in the name of giving thanks. And as we head toward the Christmas holiday, that most wonderful time of the year, this week’s big stories are about robbery and theft! Because, why wouldn’t they be?
The Grinch arrived early this year in the form of online poker thefts, as some players at the WSOP, BetMGM, and other popular poker sites had fraudsters steal tens of thousands of dollars right out of their bank accounts by exploiting a vulnerability with one of the payment processors. Global Payment Gaming Solutions handles the financial transactions for many online poker rooms, and they have a VIP setting which players can select in order to make depositing money to online poker rooms much much easier… and apparently, that setting made it a little too easy for some thieves!
Crooks set up fake player accounts at some of these sites using real player information, including their banking details! Then they simply made a deposit from the real person’s bank account into their own fake player accounts… some as much as ten thousand dollars! The bastards then used fake Venmo debit MasterCards to withdraw the funds almost immediately… before anyone knew what was going on, and the online poker thefts were complete. BetMGM says that they are working to try to get players all of their money back. And we personally reached out to Global Payment Gaming Solutions for comment on the matter. They, however, did not return our phone calls.
Meanwhile in Las Vegas, a man recently robbed the Resort’s World High Roller cash cage at two in the morning… on a Thursday! And then just stroll right out the front door! And if you think that’s crazy, wait do you hear about his getaway car! Some of you may be wondering where the hell was security? And while I cannot answer that question, I can tell you that the suspect escaped in a taxi cab! That’s simply mind-boggling to me! I mean, how did he get a cab so quick at 2 A.M in Vegas? Eventually, police were able to track down and arrest this criminal mastermind. Turns out he was on probation for robbing the Venetian two years ago! This time the Judge ordered him to be held without bail! Not only that, Resorts World canceled his players card! So, I guess that’ll teach him!
We have two new game reviews to share with you this week, starting with Gemini Joker! It’s a five real game with three rows from BetSoft, and features a bonus round and bonus spins, along with bonus re-spins! Plus there are Golden Jokers that can act as multiplier wilds, and the Joker’s Wild symbols can award players with wins of up to 1,700 times their bet! Next up, it’s Mustang Riches from Microgaming, a five real game that starts with 243 paylines, but can expand all the way up to 7,776 ways to win! It too has a bonus round and bonus spins, along with wilds and scatters, and you can bring Mustang Riches with you on your mobile device! Both of these reviews are live right now on our YouTube channel!
