(KRON) – A person was shot and killed by an officer in Monterey County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At 6:55 p.m. on Saturday, CHP officers responded to a reported traffic crash on Highway 101, northbound at Ralph Lane.
An arriving officer encountered a subject involved in the crash. CHP said, “For reasons still under investigation, an officer-involved shooting occurred, and the subject was struck.”
Aid was rendered to the subject, according to CHP. However, the person was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was not injured, said CHP.
The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office is leading this ongoing investigation.
