WWE SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis isn’t ready to close the book on his wrestling career just yet. Speaking on the latest episode of INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Aldis said wants to he’s earned the right to step back into the ring at least one more time. If he doesn’t get the chance, he noted he wouldn’t be at peace.
Aldis Wants At Least One More Match
Aldis is currently the general manager of SmackDown and he’s doing extremely well in that role. However, he’s a wrestler at heart. “I would like to lace them up,” Aldis said in the interview. “I don’t care if it’s on a regular basis, but I’ve earned it.”
Aldis is leaving the door open for a potential in-ring return, but it isn’t clear if WWE sees him in that role. He did admit that it isn’t something he’s actively pushing for and hasn’t actually asked. He explained, “If and when the time comes, it’ll be what they want, and it will hopefully be the right time. I just told them that if you want to do that, I’m ready.”

He’s Had Conversations With Triple H Abot His Role
Aldis explained he’s had discussions with Triple H about his role on SmackDown, and particularly about his character. “Hunter said, ‘I want this to be different. Your General Manager schtick is not going to be the typical authority figure we’ve seen necessarily in the past,’” It’s intriguing to know the details of his communications with Triple H because it leaves the door open for an atypical in-ring return.
Triple H doesn’t want him to be a stereotypical power-hungry authority figure. Instead, by remaining calm and never being phased when chaos ensues, when Aldis does finally snap or feel the need to step into the ring, it will be much more memorable.
Aldis also talked about how much he appreciated and watched Triple H. Clearly, he trusts his judgment. “I realized without articulating it at the time, I was studying [Triple H] because… I’m more cerebral. I could relate more to that approach.”
If one thing is clear, it’s that Nick Aldis is far from done, and the possibility of one more match is something he wants.
