SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego Police Department released more details about the stabbings in Rolando Village that took place Sunday night.
According to an update from police Tuesday, officers responded to a call reporting a battery on the 6700 block of Amherst Street Sunday around 10 p.m. Initial reports said the incident was first called in around 9 p.m. in the intersection of El Cajon Boulevard and 67th Street.
SDPD added the caller told police that two suspects, who were described as two men in a white minivan, got out of the vehicle and assaulted him.
When the suspects fled, the caller followed them while updating police dispatch, SDPD stated.
Both suspects were then seen beating other people during this time, authorities said. They also stole a backpack and beat a driver inside a car.
Four victims of the beatings reportedly fought back and injured one of the suspects, police said.
Four victims were taken to a hospital for treatment and later released. One suspect remains in the hospital, according to police, while the other was arrested.
Police said there were no life-threatening injuries during the incidents.
A witness who lives near where the incidents were reported said it appeared to begin as a physical fight between two people and a third individual who attempted to interject.
San Diego State University’s Police Department said they responded to assist SDPD, due to its proximity to the College Area, but said the incident did not have any relation to the university.
The police department’s Mid-City Investigative Unit is handling the investigation.
