ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – St. Louis native rapper Nelly will not be facing any charges following his arrest at a Maryland Heights casino in early August, according to county officials.
Christopher King with St. Louis County stated that the defense counsel decided not to issue any charges on the case.
“We don’t believe the facts in this case warrant the issuing of charges,” King said in a release.
On Aug. 7, 49-year-old Cornell Haynes Jr., also known as Nelly, was arrested after winning several casino jackpots.
An officer ran a check for warrants after his win and arrested Nelly on a 2018 infraction of having no proof of car insurance, which stemmed into a car search and alleged drug possession. The officer stated that the check was necessary after winning a certain amount of money.
Missouri State Highway Patrol said in August that their preliminary investigation found four alleged ecstasy pills.
Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, denied that the officer’s search was mandated. He noted at the time that his client had won larger amounts of money a week prior with no background checks, as well as regular warrant checks for international travel never showed anything.
“I am 100% confident this case will go nowhere,” Rosenblum said at the time.
Nelly was taken into custody following the incident but was released shortly after his arrival.
