Nashvillians went to the polls for the August 1 Election, with Early Voting running July 12-27. On the ballot were Primary Candidates for General Election and School Board Candidates for election now.
Please remember to register to Vote in the November 5 State and Federal General Election. Absentee ballots may be requested now. The deadline to register is October 7; please don’t put it off. Early Voting will run October 16 -31. Even if you didn’t vote this time, check to verify that you are eligible and that your information is correct NOW.
Circuit Court Judge Division IV, District 20 was won by Stephanie J. Williams, unopposed; as was Assessor of Property, by Vivian Wilhoite.
In the School Board contests, District 1 had 2 ballot choices, Demytris Savage-Short (R), with 1153 votes, and Robert Taylor (D), who won with 6857. Four unopposed Democrats won: District 3, Zach Young; District 5, TK Fayne, District 7, Freda Player, and District 9, Abigail Tylor.
These uncontested incumbents won in the Democratic Primary for Tennessee House of Representatives: District 50, Bo Mitchell; District 51, Aftyn Behn; District 52, Justin Jones; District 53, Jason L Powell; District 54, Vincent Dixie; District 55, John Ray Clemmons; District 58, Harold M. Love, Jr.; and District 59, Caleb Hemmer. In Tennessee House District 56, there were 2 Ballot Choices Nick Forster-Benson, with 902 votes, and Bob Freeman with 4803; in Tennessee House District 60, there were 3 Ballot Choices: Tyler Brasher, with 2214 votes, Shaundelle Brooks, with 2579, and John W. Parrish, with 116.
In the Democratic Primary, four U.S. Senate Ballot Choices and their results were as follows: Marquita Bradshaw, 7241; Lola Denise Brown, 1193; Gloria Johnson, 35993; and Civil Miller-Watkins, 619; with 31 Write-ins. Johnson won over 70% of the vote statewide, and will face the incumbent in November.
Due to Republican gerrymandering shenanigans, U.S. House results in Davidson County are not all of the votes that apply to Districts 5, 6 and 7, currently represented by Republican incumbents who live in Clarksville, Columbia and Cookeville, while ostensibly representing Nashville in Congress.
Democratic candidates for U.S. House of Representatives: District 5, Maryam Abolfazli, unopposed. District 6 had 3 Ballot Choices: Lore Bergman, 5001; Clay Faircloth 4677; and Cyril Focht, 2709. District 7, Megan Barry, unopposed.
In the Republican Primaries, these were the Nashville winners: U.S Senate, Marsha Blackburn; U.S. House District 5, Courtney Johnston, 9151 over incumbent Andy Ogles, 6687 (Nashville totals); U.S. House District 6, John Rose, and U.S. House District 7, Mark E. Green; Tennessee Senate District 20, Wyatt Rampy; TN House District 50 Jennifer Frensley Webb; TN House District 52, Laura Nelson; TN House District 53, Yog Nepal; and TN House District 60, Chad Bobo, over Christopher Huff.
However, Districtwide: Andy Ogles totaled 32,047 (56.54%) Courtney Johnston’s 24,634 (43.46%) in D5 to actually win; In the Democratic Primary, Lore Bergman had 8,678 (42.20%), Clay Faircloth 7,468 (36.32%), and Cyril Focht 4,418 (21.48%).
