FORT WORTH, Texas – The Wichita State doubles duo of Alejandro Jacome and Kristof Minarik will have an opportunity to punch their ticket to the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships this week at the ITA Central Sectionals at TCU’s Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Shocker pair qualified for this Sectionals appearance after finishing in the doubles semifinals at the ITA Central Region Championships back in October.
There are three doubles NCAA bids up for grabs in each of the four sectionals throughout the country. The doubles champion, runner-up, and third-place finisher from each section will punch their ticket to the NCAA Individual Championships in Waco, Texas at Baylor’s Hurd Tennis Center November 19-24.
If Jacome and Minarik do qualify for nationals, they would be the first Shocker doubles duo since Murkel Dellien and Marius Froza in 2019 to compete on the national stage and the ninth duo all-time.
The duo of Jacome and Minarik are slated to begin their quest in the 16-team draw on Thursday at 9:30 AM against Ohio State’s Bryce Nakashima and William Jansen. The Shockers have already triumphed over a Buckeye pair this year, defeating OSU’s Jansen and Christopher Lee 7-5, 6-4 on September 25 at ITA All-Americans.
