HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — An investigation is underway after a child was killed by her mother in an apparent murder-suicide Tuesday afternoon near Spring, deputies say.
Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident at the 1800 block of Vernal Glen Circle.
Investigators said a mother was inside her home with three of her children when shots were fired.
Authorities said the mother shot her youngest child, who they believe was 6 years old, before turning the gun on herself in front of the other children.
At the scene, Eyewitness News learned that the children in the home ranged from 6 years old to a junior in high school.
The oldest son called 911 and then his dad, who is the woman’s ex-husband, asking to be picked up.
“Right now, I just don’t know what’s going to happen,” the ex-husband said.
He told ABC13 that he is grateful his son is safe, but heartbroken for his son’s half-siblings who witnessed the alleged murder-suicide.
