NEWTON, Kan. – The Wichita State men’s golf team will play host to the third annual Grier Jones Shocker Invitational October 6-8 at Sand Creek Station Golf Club in Newton, Kansas.
The Shockers are looking defend their crown, as they have won the team title in each of the past two installments of the tournament. The team beat Utah Valley by four strokes for the crown in 2022 and Seton Hall by three in 2023. No Shocker has won the individual crown in the tournament’s brief history.
The tournament is named after Grier Jones, the winningest coach in the history of the Shocker men’s golf program, recording 49 tournament wins during his tenure head coach from 1995 to 2019. Jones was inducted into the Golf Coaches Association of American in December of 2023 and is a member of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame and the Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame.
All nine members of the 2024-25 men’s golf team will compete in the tournament with four competing as individuals only.
