WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State head men’s golf coach Judd Easterling and the men’s golf staff have announced their 2023-24 schedule.
“I’m super excited for our student-athletes to have the opportunity to travel and play in some of these exclusive events we have scheduled this year,” Easterling said. “I’m really looking forward to our schedule this year.”
The new season for the Shockers tees off on September 11th in Bowling Green, Florida, where the team will compete in the Allstate Streamsong Invitational.
October will be a busy month for the Shockers where they play in three total tournaments, including two over an eight-day stretch. The first of which is the Big O Classic hosted by the University of Omaha that runs from October 2nd-3rd.
The second of these tournaments is the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational which is hosted at Sand Creek Station Golf Club in Newton, Kansas, which runs from October 9th-10th. The Shockers will look to defend their title at their home tournament as they narrowly defeated Utah Valley for the crown last season.
The men’s golf team rounds out fall season action with their first international trip of the year, a trip to The Bahamas, where they will compete in the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Invitational hosted by Santa Clara University. The tournament spans from October 18th-22nd. The individual winner of this tournament will automatically book a spot in the Puerto Rican Open, a PGA Tour tournament which begins on March 2nd at Grand Reserve Country Club.
Spring action for the Shockers begins across the southern border in Cancun, Mexico on February 5th, where the Shockers will compete in the Los Vaqueros Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).
Following that, the team will get a month away from tournament play, before competing in the Auburn Invitational which begins on March 11th.
Men’s golf will then fire off three more regular season tournaments over the final month of the season. Those tournaments are the Twin Oaks Invitational, hosted by Missouri State (March 18th-19th), the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Maricopa, Arizona (April 1st-2nd), and finally, the Hawkeye Invitational hosted in Iowa City, Iowa, that runs from April 13th-14th.
The American Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Tournament will once again be played in Belleair, Florida at Pelican Golf Club. The tournament stretches from April 19th to April 21st.
Coach Easterling’s roster runs nine players deep this year with six returners from last year’s team, highlighted by AAC All-Conference selection Blake Lorenz, who is entering his senior season. Other returners include fellow senior Aston Castillo, and juniors Michael Winslow, Tate Herrenbruck, Lucas Schuefler, and Adam Balatka.
This year’s roster also features three newcomers with two true freshmen and one transfer. The freshmen are a pair of Kansas natives in Ty Adkins from Hutchinson and Conner Geist from Wichita. The transfer is Wichita native Zach Sokolosky, who returns to play for his hometown school from the University of Kansas.
