(KRON) — A man reported to police to be a home intruder was attacked and killed by a Martinez resident on Saturday, according to authorities.
Martinez Police Department officers responded at 4:46 a.m. to Hale Court on the report of someone heard yelling “intruder,” police said. A resident told arriving officers that a man he knew entered his home without permission.
The reported intruder was critically injured by the resident during the confrontation, police said, and was rushed by ambulance to a local trauma center. There, the man was pronounced deceased by medical staff.

The identity of the man killed was not immediately released.
“The resident is cooperating with the ongoing investigation,” Martinez PD said. “This investigation is in the early stages and our understanding of what happened may change as individuals are interviewed and evidence is collected and analyzed.”
