Authorities are investigating a shooting Sunday in a residential part of Bath that caused police to briefly issue a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents.
The shooting happened just before 7 a.m. Sunday, Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a short news release.
Moss said state and local police are on the scene investigating and that there is no danger to the public.
Police did not say whether anyone had been injured or taken in custody in relation with the shooting.
The shelter-in-place order was issued for part of the city around 8:30 a.m. while officers responded to what police described at the time as a “situation” on Crawford Drive.
About half an hour later, Bath police announced that the shelter-in-place order had been lifted.
A Facebook post from the Sagadahoc County Emergency Management Agency just after 9 a.m. said “the incident has been resolved but is still being investigated.”
Oak Grove Avenue and Crawford Drive were “blocked off” while police investigate, and detours are set up, police said.
An earlier version of the Emergency Management Agency post announcing the shelter-in-place order said it applied to Bath residents north of North Street. Those residents were asked to remove keys from vehicles, lock all doors, stay inside and alert police of suspicious activity.
