MORNING HEADLINES | Mike Edwards, the popular 53-year-old Lowcountry radio host and member of a top-rated, award-winning morning show, was found dead in his home on Thursday.
Edwards served as co-host of the radio show “Two Girls & a Guy” and as program director for WMXZ-FM, Mix 95.9. He was a multi-year winner of the City Paper’s annual Best of Charleston contest for the radio morning show and local radio personality awards.
Charleston County Coroner Bobbi O’Neal said in media reports that his death is presumed to be natural and there was no suspicion of foul play.
Brooke Ryan and Tanya Brown, his co-hosts on the radio program, said in a post on Instagram that when Edwards did not arrive for work Thursday morning, they called 911 for a wellness check. Shortly thereafter, they learned of his death.
The radio show is planning a tribute show for Friday morning during which they will air favorite segments featuring Edwards.
Edwards first came to Charleston in 1994, serving as the program director for 95SX. Five years later, he first joined the “Two Girls & a Guy” morning show with Ryan and Brown.
