Loudoun County, VA (March 7, 2025) – Twenty-four sworn and civilian personnel have successfully completed the 62nd Basic Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) program, marking another significant achievement in Loudoun County’s commitment to compassionate community service.
The comprehensive training program equips first responders with advanced skills to address complex human situations involving psychological and emotional challenges. Participants learned sophisticated strategies for engaging with individuals experiencing acute mental health crises, focusing on creating safe, supportive interactions that prioritize human dignity and effective communication.
A diverse coalition of local organizations collaborated to develop this transformative program, including the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Mental Health Services, The Arc of Loudoun, Friends of Loudoun Mental Health, National Alliance on Mental Illness – Northern Virginia, and the County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
Intensive training sessions were led by seasoned professionals from Loudoun’s Mental Health, Substance Abuse & Developmental Health Services, alongside certified LCSO deputies and specialized subject matter experts. The curriculum provided comprehensive insights into the medical, social, psychological, and legal dimensions of mental health intervention.
Loudoun County continues to demonstrate leadership in crisis response training. Since pioneering the first three-day advanced CIT training in Virginia in 2019 and developing specialized training for School Resource Officers, the Sheriff’s Office has consistently pushed boundaries in creating more empathetic, informed emergency response protocols.
The graduation of these 24 professionals represents another step forward in Loudoun County’s ongoing mission to enhance public safety through understanding, education, and collaborative care.
