ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A local school board faced tough questions Wednesday night about a more than $7 million budget shortfall.
Parents, teachers and other residents packed the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education’s meeting to voice their concerns over how the board has handled the budget and potential cuts.
District officials tell FOX 2 they have been reducing spending this school year already and are in the process of making “challenging decisions” for the next budget.
They said so far, 26 mainly administrative positions have been impacted. But some programs under the music education department may also face potential cuts. Some also fear those and other cuts could impact teachers and ultimately students.
The President of the district’s teachers union told FOX 2 they do not want to see anyone who works directly with students—including teachers and bus drivers—lose their jobs.
The board said potential cuts made for the 2025-2026 school year must be made by June 30.
