LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — It’s been three years since a Lexington mother tragically lost her 17-year-old son, Sergio Villarados, a murder that remains unsolved to this day.
“There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t think about him,” says Alvis Villarau, the mother of Sergio.
At the time of the murder, Sergio was just 17-years-old.
She says the family feels frustrated, sad and at times helpless, feeling like they can’t do anything.
According to police, on October 28, 2021, they responded, to the area of Price Road and Fairdale Drive for an accident.
When officers arrived, they found a black Impala on its side with two occupants trapped inside, Sergio and a passenger.
As the family continues to cope with Sergio’s loss, his mother says it’s particularly been hard on his younger siblings, his sister and his little brother.
Authorities say in addition to injuries suffered from the accident, Sergio and his passenger were both also shot.
Since that fateful day, his family is still left with questions as there is still no suspect information, or a motive.
Villarau says the day of the incident, when they arrived on scene, she wanted to see her son and hug him, but she couldn’t.
The family is offering a $50,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
Meantime, Alvis adding, “I love him with all my heart, the greatest love a mother has is her children, and I love him, I miss him.”
And also pleads the community to do the right thing, and if anyone knows anything to contact police, because today it can be her family, tomorrow, it could be yours.
