Latino wrestlers, Luchadors have permeated the major American wrestling landscape for decades now. The likes of El Santo, Mil Mascaras, Blue Demon, Rey Mysterio, and Gory Guerrero; along with their offspring have become household names all over the world. In the mid-nineties, Eric Bischoff helped educate American fans even more by incorporating Lucha Libre style into the WCW Cruiserweight division.
Some factions featuring solely Latino superstars have gone on to become some of the most memorable in wrestling history as well. Each one features at least one superstar who went on to become one of the most influential superstars of all time, Latino or not.
10/10 Honorable Mention – The Filthy Animals
Our honorable mentions get that distinction because they are factions made up of predominantly Latino superstars, as opposed to fully. WCW put together The Filthy Animals.
The stable featured all of their best Latino superstars – Konnan, Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, Juventud Guerrera, and rounding out the crew was Billy Kidman and of all people, Disqo. Their most memorable moment was abducting Ric Flair and leaving him to rot in the desert – a bold and murderous move for a group of babyfaces.
9/10 Honorable Mention – Death Triangle
In AEW, one of the longest-running trios in the short history of the company is The Death Triangle.
Managed by their hype man, Alex Abrahantes, the team consists of The Lucha Brothers, Penta El Zero Miedo, Rey Fenix, and the heavily Lucha-influenced Pac. The group is among the most popular in wrestling right now, let alone AEW.
8/10 Mexican America
After spending a year away from TNA, the mammoth Hernandez returned and tried to play the game. Until he realized that he was always being treated like a second-class citizen.
He partnered up with a wrestler Anarquia, as well as Knockout Tag Champs Sarita and Rosita (Zelina Vega) to form Mexican America.
7/10 LAX
Who would have ever thought that Latin American Xchange (LAX) would become one of the most influential factions in all of wrestling?
Originally started by Konnan, the group has had several iterations over the years, and some members have gone on to become household names. Currently, some of those names are in AEW right now – The Mad King Eddie Kingston and Santino and Ortiz.
6/10 The Mexicools
Featuring three of the most exciting Luchadors of the late nineties, Super Crazy, Psicosis, and Juventud Guerrera headed to the WWE as The Mexicools. The group certainly wasn’t meant to be taken seriously at all considering they were formed as stereotypes.
They arrived in landscaper outfits and rode “Juan Deere” lawnmowers. Unfortunately, Juvi was released for personal issues, signaling the beginning of the end for the group.
5/10 Lucha House Party
From the ashes of The Lucha Dragons tag team, Kalisto formed a new faction – the Lucha House Party, alongside Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado.
Three lightweight superstars in masks – that act wasn’t ever going back to be pushed heavily. After several years together treading the mid-card, the group asked for their releases to try and make a go of it on the independent scene.
4/10 Ingobernables
While they haven’t officially formed yet in AEW, Los Ingobernables, its leader Rush, and one of the founding members, La Sombra (Andrade El Idolo) are together in All Elite.
The faction has set up shop in Japan (adding Naito to their ranks) and for a time was invading Ring Of Honor as well. Once the company was sold, the group’s time in ROH ended as well.
3/10 Los Boricuas
“You gotta have factions, pal!” Shortly after Farooq broke up the first incarnation of The Nation Of Domination, two more factions sprouted up – Crush led the bikers, The Disciples Of Apocalypse. Meanwhile, Savio Vega led Los Boricuas. It was the first ever faction of its kind – all made up of Latinos.
The faction-led warfare eventually fell by the wayside, but during the beginning of The Attitude Era, they were an integral part of creating a frenetic and wild atmosphere.
2/10 Legado Del Fantasma
Forming during the Pandemic Era, Santos Escobar had led Legado Del Fantasma to glory as The Cruiserweight champion.
The group was always in the mix in either the tag team or North American divisions of NXT. They lost their status however in a turf war against The D’Angelo family. With Zelina Vega as their manager, they are now primed for success on SmackDown.
1/10 Latino World Order
Based on the real-life issues between Eddie Guerrero and Eric Bischoff, Eddie grabbed as many of his hermanos as he could find to form the Latino World Order.
They tried to recruit Rey Mysterio but to no avail. Unfortunately, a real-life accident would sideline Eddie, the nWo would reunite, and shortly after the LWo members were either absorbed or taken out.
