Friday’s Five Facts
[1] Storm causes power outages for thousands of PNM customers across New Mexico – Thousands are still without power across the state. PNM reported Thursday that more than 50,000 customers were without power. PNM says restoration efforts are still ongoing. As of Friday morning, the PNM outage map shows over 7,000 still without power.
[2] Snowy storm slowly starts to exit New Mexico – The strongest storm system of the season, which has brought in the most snow and coldest air for many is slowly moving through New Mexico. More snow will fall before it’s all set and done. Unsettled weather will eventually depart late today into early tomorrow as conditions will slowly dry out while warming up this Veterans Day Weekend with snow melt expected for the lower elevations.
[3] Police release more details about shooting death of Rio Rancho teen – Rio Rancho Police say 15-year-old Adrian Maestas was shot in the head after a group of teens gathered on Inca Rd. and 2nd St. Police said a group of individuals who knew each other met to resolve an ongoing dispute. Maestas was taken to the hospital and died two days later. Police say they have identified the vehicle and suspects in the case. While evidence is still being processed, police are urging the public to not share any accusations or photos of the juveniles who may be involved.
[4] Santa Fe sees winter whiteout, storm system expected to stay through end of week – The winter storm continues to pile up snow in northern New Mexico, with some areas getting more than two feet of snow. More than ten inches of snow has hit Santa Fe and they’re expecting an extra five inches going into the weekend. According to city officials, the street maintenance team is working 12-hour shifts with six snow plows to clear the roads. The city of Las Vegas got more than 15 inches of snow in some parts of town. They have about 15 trucks cleaning up roads and are working with local contractors to expand clean up efforts.
[5] Tent Rocks National Monument will reopen, BLM and Cochiti Pueblo say – Tent Rocks, on the Cochiti Pueblo has been closed since March of 2020. Now, it’s ready to open and welcome visitors back. Visitors will have to make reservations online ahead of their visit, including the purchase of a $20 tribal access pass. Guests can start securing a spot as early as Tuesday, November 12 and the monument will officially welcome visitors on November 21.
