INDIANAPOLIS — On Saturday, Former State Senator Karen Tallian (Ogden Dunes) was elected the next Chair of the Indiana Democratic Party by the State Central Committee, INDEMS announced.
According to a press release, Tallian worked for District 4 in the State Senate. Between December 2005 and November 2021, Tallian represented parts of Porter, La Porte and Lake Counties. INDEMS also said Tallian served as the Democratic Caucus Chair between 2016 and 2020.
In addition, Tallian earned the title “Champion of Labor” during her time in the State Senate. Per INDEMS, this is due to her dedication to Hoosiers and building of relationships with labor leaders.
Tallian also worked to raise Indiana’s minimum wage and fought to decriminalize cannabis, INDEMS said.
“I am honored and humbled by the State Central Committee’s confidence in me to serve as Indiana Democratic Party Chair,” Tallian said. ““As we move forward, it is our job as Democrats to both reunite internally and reunite with the working Hoosiers who may feel left behind by the Party in recent years. I am ready to get to work electing Democrats up and down the ballot.”
In addition to Tallian, the following leaders were also elected by the State Central Committee for the 2025-2029 term:
- Alex Nyirendah (Vice Chair)
- Erin Retif (Secretary)
- Michael Griffin (Treasurer)
