ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– The Jennings Creek wildfire has burned roughly 5,201 acres, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) said 12% has yet to be contained. The New York Air National Guard continued bucket drops on the wildfire on Saturday.
Jeff Wernick of the DEC said fire lines boxed in the blaze, primarily in Sterling Forest State Park. Wernick said residents should continue abiding by the state’s burn ban because most areas around the state are experiencing drought conditions.
Residents are also encouraged to remove leaves close to their homes if a brush fire ignites. Drought conditions can be found on the U.S. Drought Monitor website.
Fire departments across the Capital Region have volunteered to assist in the fight against the wildfire. Six Ravena Fire Department officials returned on Saturday after fighting the blaze in Orange County for three days.
