Celtics
No-nonsense style for a no-nonsense win against the Miami Heat following a loss in Cleveland.
Maybe it was a case of the Mondays. Maybe it was the Monday after Thanksgiving — that first harsh return to work after a holiday weekend. Maybe because it was the first really cold day in Boston in a while. “Coldest morning so far for some,” Dave Epstein, meteorologist for The Boston Globe, posted online. Maybe the Celtics felt tired on the second night of a back-to-back.
Whatever the vibe on the “JetBlue Runway” Monday night, fans and spectators saw Jayson Tatum in his usual neutrals: Beige, cream, taupe, tan, eggshell, off-white, or ivory, often paired with another neutral like white, black, gray, or brown.
Maybe Tatum was channeling his version of comfy clothes or “emotional support sweats” in his dependable colorway, especially after that loss to the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Sunday.
Which is understandable — sometimes you gotta go to work, but you don’t want to feel like you’re wearing work clothes. That’s the beauty of Halara or other styles of office sweats.
Of course, Tatum did not actually wear sweatpants. He wore slacks and a top from the brand Diet Starts Monday, emblazoned on the front of the simple two-toned pullover — perhaps hinting at the remnants of a Thanksgiving meal, or possibly reflecting the sluggish last few minutes on Sunday night against the Cavs.
With this consistent colorway and his signature neutral color blocking, Tatum leaned into the comfort of his familiar.
Here’s how Tatum has worn black, tan, and white together in the past.
- Black and tan: Tatum wore a tan suit with a scoop-neck black shirt and black shoes at an event for the Netflix show Starting 5.
- White, grey, and tan: Tatum aligned perfectly with the launch of his Jordan Tatum 3 sneakers, also in a neutral colorway.
- Taupe and ivory: Tatum arrived in this look for a preseason game in Abu Dhabi.
- Gold, black, and white: Tatum switched the tone and pattern for the team’s Banner 18 win, but ultimately wore his usual colors.
- White and tan: Tatum showed up for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals in a Versace two-piece cargo and vest matching set.
- Beige and gray: Tatum modeled with his watch collection for the Haute Times.
Tatum showed above and on Monday night that simple can be best. Chill can be fresh. You don’t need crazy swag to grab attention. Sometimes you need to give it a rest. Sometimes you need to protect your peace. That may have helped Celtics secure the win against the Miami Heat, 89-108.
Either that, or Tatum wanted to keep the centennial celebration going.
