HENRY COUNTY, Ind. — An investigation is underway after a 19-year-old was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Spiceland early Monday afternoon.
Troopers with the Indiana State Police and deputies with the Henry County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of a vehicle crash shortly after noon on State Road 3 to the south of County Road 700 S. near the town of Spiceland.
ISP said first responders arrived and observed a black 2010 Ford Focus that was located off the roadway alongside a tree that it had collided with during the incident. Dillon Micheal Conlin of Greensburg was pronounced dead on the scene, according to ISP. There were no other occupants inside the vehicle when the crash occurred.
ISP said preliminary information suggests that, for unknown reasons, Conlin’s Ford Focus veered off the roadway and appeared to slam directly into a tree. While the circumstances that led up to the crash remain under investigation, ISP determined that Conlin was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident and that speed is believed to have been a contributing factor.
The Spiceland Volunteer Fire Department, Henry County EMS and Henry County Coroner’s Office also assisted at the scene.
