Drew McIntyre shares health update after WWE return.
McIntyre made his comeback on the July 4 taped episode of SmackDown following time off after a steel cage match loss to Damian Priest. Following his return, the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion gave fans a positive update about his health ahead of his return match.
During an interview with FOX News, McIntyre said he feels better now than he has in years. Taking time away from the ring allowed him to reflect on himself.
“I honestly feel better than I felt in about, minimum, six or seven years. During this time off, I’ve had a chance to step back and look at everything from an outside perspective – the product itself and more specifically me because I’m only competing against myself as far as I’m concerned.”
Drew McIntyre says he hasn’t been at his best despite fan praise
Apart from sharing a positive health update, McIntyre admitted he hadn’t been performing at his highest level. He recognized that certain aspects of his game needed significant improvement.
“And I’ve realized, wow, OK, I’ve got some areas I really need to improve upon even though, from a fan’s perspective they might say, ‘Well, look at your 2024 going into 2025 on the microphone, in the ring, physique-wise compared to everybody else.’ I said no, no, no. I might look good compared to everybody else but I was not giving it … I’d say I was giving it 65%.”
After returning, McIntyre interrupted a segment involving Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes. He tried to stir tension between them following Orton’s loss to Rhodes in the King of the Ring tournament finals.
However, the plan backfired as Orton hit him with an RKO. Upset by the attack, McIntyre demanded a match against Orton, which SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis later made official for Saturday Night’s Main Event, set to take place this weekend.
