Takeaway of the Day
This week is off to a mild and pleasant start. Today has been bright and sunny over inland areas, but morning clouds and fog made a slow and stubborn retreat to the coast; as a result, many coastal communities have had gray skies even through the afternoon hours. We have also had a breezy-to-gusty pattern this afternoon with surface wind speeds mainly in the range of 15 to 25 miles per hour. At 3:45 p.m., temperatures ranged from lower 60s at the coast to mid 70s near the bay to mid-80s inland.
As the day winds down, we can expect the marine layer to once again deepen and expand across the bay and locally inland.
The Look Ahead
Our current weather pattern will remain nearly unchanged tomorrow, but Wednesday will mark the beginning of a significant warming trend. In fact, a bit of summer sizzle is likely on Thursday and Friday, when high temperatures will approach 100 degrees in the warmest inland areas. This heat spike will be relatively brief, lasting only two to three days.
However, even a brief heat spike like this brings with it elevated fire concerns and the possibility of heat-related illness from prolonged exposure to the heat. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids.
