Jan 3 (NewsWire) – The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) says it will blacklist all Sri Lankans who have travelled overseas for employment under a tourist visa.
Issuing a notice, the SLBFE said that it will also initiate legal action against them under the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Act.

The SLBFE further said that measures have been taken to repatriate Sri Lankan women who were stranded in Oman and are currently placed at safety centres under the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman.
Stating that the first group consisting of 08 women arrived in Sri Lanka on 24th December 2022, the SLBFE said that the second group consisting of 6 women are expected to arrive in the country today.
The SLBFE stated that 18 women who had illegally travelled to Oman under tourist visas to obtain jobs are currently absconding.
The women who had run away from their places of employment have been blacklisted by Oman’s Ministry of Labour, the SLBFE statement said.
The SLBFE said that measures are being taken to repatriate them to Sri Lanka after obtaining the necessary approval from their employers.
The cost of tickets for the repatriation of the group which is considered to be living in Oman illegally will have to be borne by their relevant families, it added.
