ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – As the sports world turns its eyes to college basketball, Ablqueruqe Animal Welfare is hoping people bring home a new member of their own team this weekend. The department hosted the Home Team Pet Adoption at the east and westside shelters Saturday with over 500 animals in their care looking for new homes.
All adoptions come with a spay or neuter, a pet tag, a microchip, vaccines, and one free vet visit. The department also had adoption counselors on hand to give potential owners pointers on drafting their newest family teammate.
“We try to have events as often as we can because we have so many animals in the shelter. We’re also coming up at a critical point in the year where we start seeing more animals come into our shelter, so we really need to have more animals adopted; more pets adopted,” says adoption manager Selia Velasquez.
The adoption event will continue through Sunday at both shelters.
