BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Green River Regional Educational Cooperative hosted what they call Bright Minds, Bright Futures… a way to recognize those who are getting scholarships from them and Western Kentucky University.
Tonight’s special guest speaker is a name familiar to most UK basketball fans, as former coach Tubby Smith talked about how important education is to him.
We caught up with Coach Smith after his speech, and he told us as a former teacher himself, he’s really excited to talk to the future of the industry… especially during times like these when we’ve seen threats towards our schools.
“Schools are there to not just teach, not just educate but to protect, inspire & motivate people… so we really need to continue to grow education and teachers need to be paid better… we need to do a better job with upgrading and modernizing our schools,” Smith says.
CEO Bart Flener was excited to invite a man he knows well to be the guest speaker, and is honored to partner with WKU’s College of Education & Behavioral Sciences to award scholarships to the future of teaching.
