GIBSON, La. (WGNO) — A Gibson man is dead following a fatal crash that occurred in the evening hours of Thursday, Oct. 17.
According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers with Troop C began investigating the crash, which occurred on North Bayou Black Drive near Canrience Pumping Road, just before 7 p.m.
The initial investigation showed that 63-year-old Andrew Aker, of Gibson, was driving a 2015 Nissan Frontier west on North Bayou Black when, for reasons that are still being investigated, the vehicle crossed the centerline, hit a utility pole, and went into the bayou before being fully submerged.
Aker was reportedly unrestrained when the crash happened and was pronounced dead on scene.
A standard toxicology sample was collected and submitted for analysis.
