Berlin (dpa) – Germany plans to recruit large numbers of skilled professionals from India in an attempt to close its growing skills gap. To this end, the Federal Cabinet is adopting a Skilled Labour Strategy especially for India, Labour Minister Hubertus Heil said on the sidelines of a cricket match with Indians in Berlin. Over 30 measures, aimed above all at reducing the bureaucratic hurdles involved for example in the granting of visas, are to make it easier for Indians to come to Germany. A shortage of skilled workers is looming in Germany, whereas the opposite is the case in India, according to the government. That’s why Germany sees “India as a particularly important partner in the area of skilled labour immigration”. Heil announced that the government would present the Skilled Labour Strategy at next week’s German-Indian government consultations in India.
